Honoring Memory, Inspiring Action: Kwibuka32 Commemoration at Georgetown University

At the Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy, the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda unfolded as a deeply moving and reflective gathering. Diplomats, government officials, academics, students, and members of the wider community came together in a spirit of unity to honor the lives lost and stand in solidarity with survivors. The atmosphere was solemn yet powerful, marked by moments of silence, heartfelt testimonies, and thoughtful discussions that underscored the enduring impact of the genocide and the responsibility to preserve its memory.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in meaningful dialogue about remembrance, education, and prevention, reaffirming a shared commitment to ensuring that such atrocities are never repeated. The event reflected the essence of Kwibuka—“to remember”—as voices from diverse backgrounds joined in collective reflection and renewed resolve. The commemoration was further distinguished by the presence of  MINISPORTS Minister,  Nelly Mukazayire, whose attendance underscored the importance of international solidarity in remembering the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Speaking at the gathering held at Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy, she delivered a powerful message emphasizing the need to preserve historical truth, support survivors, and strengthen global efforts toward genocide prevention. Her presence brought a profound sense of connection between Rwanda and the international community, reminding attendees that remembrance is not only about honoring the past but also about shaping a more just and vigilant future.
